Koa’s Story
Koa had eaten a nylon leash which was lodged in his intestine, causing severe discomfort, vomiting, and lethargy. It was obvious that immediate removal of the obstruction was necessary. The total cost of the procedure was $1,554 and Linda and her son, both unemployed, needed funding for Koa so they contacted the Jake Brady Memorial Fund for assistance.

Outcome
Koa had the obstruction removed in October of 2010 and is now doing fine! She is back to her old self again and living comfortably with her family. The delicate surgery was performed by North Royalton Animal Hospital in North Royalton, Ohio. Remember Koa, leashes are for making sure you’re safe while walking, not for swallowing. Theater’s Story
Theater was brought to the vet with several issues including a skin condition, ear infection, and watery eyes. Upon examination it was determined that a cleaning and medications be prescribed to rid her of the irritations. The cost of specialized dermatology care was $194. Deborah is a senior citizen on fixed income and needed funds to provide for Theater’s treatment, so she contacted the Jake Brady Memorial Fund for assistance.

Outcome
Theater had a complete cleansing and check-up in September of 2010, and is now disease free. The specialized dermatology care was provided by Veterinary Allergy and Dermatology in Richfield, Ohio. She will need to undergo medications going forward to control her skin condition and ensure a comfortable daily life. Congratulations to Theater and Deborah!

Meeka’s Story
Meeka is a rescue dog and was suffering from an upper eyelid tumor and a dental infection. Upon examination it was determined the mass be removed immediately, and a complete dental cleaning be performed. The cost of related procedures was $504. Harold is a senior citizen on fixed income and needed help to provide Meeka the care she needs, so he contacted the Jake Brady Memorial Fund for assistance.

Outcome
Meeka’s tumor was removed and a dental cleaning performed in August of 2010. With the mass removed and clean teeth and gums, Meeka is now living a comfortable and pain free life. Sissy’s Story
Sissy was brought into the vet with a mass on her abdomen and extremely lethargic. It was determined that a complete blood panel and biopsy be performed to review the mass. Outcome
Sissy’s procedure was completed in July of 2010. Blood work revealed anemia, and although the mass was removed, it was determined cancerous. Buddy’s Story

Shaggy was presented to the vet with several maintenance issues. Upon examination it was determined he needed skin care, shots, medications, and special diet to get his health back up to par. Outcome

Precious’s Story
Precious was presented to the vet with severe abdominal pain and quite lethargic. Upon examination and x-rays, it was determined that she had an umbilical hernia which needed immediate repair. Outcome
Precious had her hernia repaired and a spay procedure completed in July of 2010. She is now restored to health and has a pain free future. The care was provided by Buena Vista Pet Clinic in Hemet, California. We wish nothing but years of health and happiness to Precious and Beyanca!

Dakota’s Story
Dakota was brought to the vet with a mass growing on her right anterior chest. Upon examination, it was determined a biopsy be performed on the tissue along with treatment for a degenerative disc disease. The cost of related procedures including mass removal and medications totaled over $250. Mary is on disability and receiving government benefits so she needed funding to provide for Dakota’s medical care. She contacted the Jake Brady Memorial Fund for assistance.

Outcome
Dakota’s procedure was completed in June of 2010. The biopsy came back normal so the mass removed was not cancerous. In addition, Dakota will undergo ongoing medication to relieve her of her back ailment so she can live comfortably. Kali’s Story
Kali was scratching severely and lethargic when brought to the vet. Upon examination, it was determined that she had a bad case of fleas that needed immediate removal. Kali had her flea treatment, shots, and meds completed in June of 2010 and is now in tip top shape! She will go on a flea spray treatment to control any future occurrences. Her care was provided by Yorkshire Veterinary Clinic is Sunbury, Ohio. Best of luck to Kali and Jonathan!

Shorty’s Story
Shorty developed a mass on his right eye which needed immediate testing and biopsy. Upon biopsy results, it was determined the mass was non-cancerous but removal was necessary to prevent complications. The cost of the procedure was $677, and since David was on a government assistance program, contacted the Jake Brady Memorial Fund for assistance.

Outcome
Shorty completed his surgery in June of 2010. The mass was removed and no further complications were imminent. The procedure was completed at Ripon Veterinary Hospital in Ripon, California. Rocky was suffering from a neurological disorder effecting both his respiratory system and limbs. Rocky’s treatment was completed in June of 2010. He will need to undergo continuous fluid therapy, physical therapy and medications to relieve him of his nerve pain and ensure his mobility and health. Lola’s Story
Lola suffered a backyard incident which resulted in a deep laceration along her left shoulder penetrating into her muscle. Upon examination, it was determined that the wound needed immediate disinfecting and closure to eliminate further infection complications. The total cost of surgical procedures and hospitalization was $600. Brandon is a recent school graduate and looking for work, and contacted the Jake Brady Memorial fund for assistance.

Outcome
Lola’s procedure was completed in June of 2010, and here would has since healed and the muscle tissue repaired. The services were provided by Banfield Veterinary Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota. She was put on medication to prevent any further infection and given a clean bill of health. Congratulations to Lola and Brandon, we wish you the best!

Cirrus is a registered service dog who was suffering from an advanced gum and tooth infection. Cirrus had her procedure completed in June of 2010. After teeth extractions, a complete dental cleaning and medications, she is now back on duty and providing relaxation therapy to others. The testing was completed at Lakewood Animal Hospital in Lakewood, Ohio. Chaos was suffering from feline urinary syndrome. Outcome
Rosie completed her treatment in March of 2009, and her condition has greatly improved. She will need to undergo antibiotic treatment for some time to come, since this condition can take up to 12 months to eclipse when the immune system is compromised. Latte’s Story
Latte was suffering from renal disorders and recently developed a poor appetite and had been vomiting. Since her veterinarian believed that kidney function was not the cause of the recent developments, Latte needed an ultrasound, blood work, and possible biopsy to pinpoint the actual cause. The total cost of related procedures was $563, so Carolyn contacted the Jake Brady Memorial Fund for assistance.

Outcome
Latte completed her ultrasound in January of 2009, and it was discovered that she had metabolic acidosis and stones developing. The testing and care was provided by the University of Minnesota Veterinary Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN. She was given medication and will continue to be monitored for kidney and urinary tract health going forward on a regular basis. Her appetite is back and she is playful again. Misty’s Story
Misty had a neck mass that was both uncomfortable and suspicious. Not only was it affecting her ability to move around, but began to inhibit here ability to eat and drink. Upon examination, it was determined that the mass should explored to see if it was removable. The total cost of examination and cytology of the mass was $389, so Debra who is permanently disabled contacted the Jake Brady Memorial Fund for assistance.

Outcome
Misty completed her FNA in February of 2009. After the biopsy, it was determined that the tumor was benign. Her mass is well encapsulated and the prognosis is excellent with surgical removal. The procedure was completed at Great Lakes Veterinary Hospital in Cleveland, OH. Debra will be moving forward with surgical removal so that Misty can live a healthy and comfortable life. Bogo’s Story
Bogo was lethargic and not eating well. Jeanette knew something was wrong and brought him to the hospital for testing. Upon examination and blood work, it was discovered that Bogo was suffering from pancreatitis, but the condition could be treated with medication and diet. Outcome
Bogo completed his testing and general profile in January of 2009, and is now doing much better. His care and examination was completed by North Royalton Animal Hospital in North Royalton, Oh. After overnight observation and IV fluid therapy, Bogo was given the green light to go home the next morning. He will continue on mediations and diet going forward to ensure his continued health. Chance’s Story
Chance was brought into the hospital suffering from severe abdominal pain. Upon examination, it was discovered that he had swallowed a foreign object which had become lodged in his colon. The object (bone) had to be removed immediately to avoid necrosis and perforation, and his procedure was scheduled that day. The total cost of x-rays, anesthesia, and overnight monitoring was $399, so Tabatha contacted the Jake Brady Memorial Fund for assistance.

Outcome
Chance completed his procedure in January of 2009, and is doing great. The removal was a success, and was completed at Capital Veterinary Referral & Emergency Center in Columbus, Oh. After spending the night for observation, Chance was sent home the following morning with no complications. He was given some pain medication and antibiotic to prevent infection, and put on a bland diet for a few days to soothe his stomach. Congratulations Chance!

Daisy Mae’s Story

Daisy Mae was suffering from chronic back pain and brought into her vet by Becky. In order to find out the cause of her ailment, she needed x-rays and medication to determine the source. Since Becky currently oversees guardianship of several family members, she was in need of financial assistance to provide Daisy Mae’s testing. Outcome

Daisy Mae completed her x-rays, and testing of December, 2008. The procedures were completed at Grand Animal Hospital in San Diego, CA. It was determined that she has a degenerative disc problem which will require ongoing medication and special exercise to alleviate her intermittent back pain. Surgery could be an option down the road after future check ups are completed to see how her medication treatment is progressing.

Sandy was brought into her vet with a large fluid filled growth in her right ear. Upon examination, it was determined that the growth needed immediate draining and removal to prevent complications and infection. Outcome

Sandy completed her procedure in December of 2008, and is healing fine! The care was provided by Oberlin Animal Hospital in Oberlin, Ohio. Sandy is taking medication to ensure any future infections and living comfortably at home with mom. Congratulations to Sandy and Amy, we wish you all the best!

Bandit’s Story

Bandit suffered a wild animal attack in her back yard which resulted in extensive damage to one of her eyes. Upon examination, it was recommended that that they eye be removed immediately to alleviate the pain and prevent further life threatening infection. The total cost of the enucleation procedure and boarding was $688. Ruth is living on a fixed income with a family of 5 and was in need of financial assistance, so she contacted the Jake Brady Memorial fund for immediate help.

Outcome

Bandit completed her delicate eye removal in December of 2008, and is now doing great. Although she will need to get used to her new field of vision, her prognosis is excellent. The procedure was completed at Fletcher Animal Hospital in Fletcher, NC. Congratulations to Bandit and her family for a successful outcome and a new view on life!

Name:  Morgan Breed:  German Shepherd Age:  7 years Lives:  Broken Arrow, OK Parents:  Christopher

Morgan’s Story

Morgan is a rescued service dog who was brought to Christopher to assist him in his daily functions. Christopher has Asperger’s Syndrome, a mild form of autism and was in need of assistance navigating him through his daily life. Morgan was recently diagnosed with a degenerative back disorder requiring fusion and extraction of discs. In addition, extensive testing was needed including scans, diagnostics, and rehab. The total cost of related procedures and surgery was over $3,200, so Chris and his parents contacted the Jake Brady Memorial Fund for funding assistance.

Outcome

Upon completing extensive testing and research, Morgan’s condition miraculously reversed in December, 2008, and is currently getting around fine without surgery. She was treated at the Oklahoma State University Veterinary Hospital in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Although she is undergoing constant monitoring of her condition, future surgery will still be an option going forward. Most importantly, she is able to help Chris with his every day needs and perform her service duties pain free. Congratulations to Morgan and her wonderful family!

Jamie’s Story

Jamie, a rescued shelter pup, was diagnosed with the deadly puppy flu virus PARVO. Upon examination, it was determined she needed immediate medical treatment including around the clock monitoring, medications, and intravenous fluids to nurse her back to health. Based on unusual circumstances, Chris was in need of financial help so he contacted the Jake Brady Memorial Fund for funding assistance.

Outcome

After completing several days of around the clock treatment, Jamie is now PARVO free and happily home with her new family! The successful care was provided by Lakewood Animal Hospital in Lakewood, Ohio, in October of 2008. In addition to the PARVO treatment, she also received an intestinal worm check and a clean bill of health from the veterinarian on other puppy health concerns. Chloe’s Story

Chloe is a miracle story for a special needs dog. She was adopted by St. Francis Animal Sanctuary to provide for her special care. Upon visiting the facility, Chloe was adopted by David, a high school student who realized she needed the love and care of a family. You see, Chloe suffered from severe impairment to her jaw and muscles which left her bones fused, and unable to open her mouth to eat, drink, pant, and bark. With the help of St. Francis Animal Sanctuary, Chloe was taken to the Ohio State University Veterinarian Hospital, where she needed a CT scan, biopsy, tracheotomy, and surgery to give her a normal and healthy life. Chewy’s Story

Chewy stopped producing tears in his eyes along with a lump forming on his neck. His diet became sparse, and he was lethargic and inactive. He was presented to his vet and testing began immediately due to health concerns. Upon examination, a tissue biopsy and histopathology were performed along with a lacrimal duct blockage procedure to produce his tears. The total cost of procedures was over $470, so Sandy and Andrew contacted the Jake Brady Memorial Fund for immediate assistance.

Outcome

Chewy’s testing and procedures were completed in July of 2008. His tear ducts are now functioning properly, and the biopsy for lymphosarcoma came back negative and the lump removed. The procedures were completed at West Chase Veterinary Clinic in Tampa, Florida, and Chewy is once again a happy and healthy young pup! Continued visits will be needed to ensure proper tear production and to monitor his thyroid going forward. Congratulations to Chewy, Sandra, and Andrew who have years together as a family!

Bud’s Story

Bud was presented with bilateral elbow dysplasia diagnosed by his DVM. He is a service dog in training which posed concerns not only about his health, but how it would affect his potential as a service dog. He was suffering from painful stiffness and swelling due to a bone spur in his left elbow and bilateral arthritic changes in both front elbows. Surgery was recommended immediately, and with the cost of care and procedures exceeding $2,000, Denise contacted the Jake Brady Memorial Fund for funding assistance.

Outcome

Bud completed his delicate surgical procedure in July of 2008, and his dysplasia is now cured! His procedures were completed at UC Davis Animal Clinic, a renowned facility who specializes in major reconstructive procedures. Bud will continue a regiment of joint diets, supplements, and appropriate exercise to ensure his health going forward. We’re sure Bud will excel in his duties as a service dog, and Denise looks forward to him helping others, as she helped him!

Daisy’s Story

Daisy was brought in on an emergency basis due to a suspicious and uncomfortable growth on her side, which began to bleed and sore from constant scratching. Upon examination, it was determined that she have the mass removed, a biopsy performed, and receive nursing care until she regained her strength and health. With the total cost of related procedures, medication and hospitalization at $741, Mark was in need of immediate help so he contacted the Jake Brady Memorial Fund for assistance.

Outcome

Daisy completed her emergency procedure in June of 2008 with the biopsy being negative! The successful procedure was completed at Market Street Veterinary Clinic in San Diego, California, and her health outlook is great. Market Street Veterinary Clinic is a new and premier clinic in the Southern California area specializing in such animal care. Mark will need to bring her back for periodic check-ups to make sure her health remains stable with no further set backs. Congratulations Mark and Daisy!

Oscar ’s Story

Oscar developed an open draining wound on the left side of his face below his eye which was becoming infected. In addition, he needed 3 immediate extractions including an abscessed upper left carnassal, incisor, and premolar to prevent further infection. Outcome

Oscar completed his oral procedure in March of 2008 and has a clean bill of health! The successful procedure was completed at Lakewood Animal Hospital in Lakewood, Ohio, and his health outlook remains good with no signs of infection. With the recommendation of periodic check ups and a brushing routine to ensure his oral health, Karen and Oscar can now look forward to years of health and happiness….and fresh breath!

Sadie’s Story

Sadie was having severe trouble moving about and needed immediate medical care to determine the cause. Upon completion of an MRI, she was diagnosed with significant spinal cord compression from several disc herniations, along with disc protrusions that were starting to compress the spinal cord. It was recommended that she undergo immediate surgery to repair her spinal condition and regain her mobility. The total cost of Sadie’s MRI, surgery, boarding, and medication amounted to over $4,700, and Catrina contacted the Jake Brady Memorial Fund for financial assistance.

Outcome

Sadie’s delicate procedure was completed in January of 2008 and she has regained her mobility and getting around better with each passing day! Her procedure was completed at the Neurological Center for Animals in Lakewood, Colorado, a facility renowned for such specialized spinal and neurological care. Her prognosis is great and will receive continuous rehabilitation and check ups going forward. Let’s give a big hand to Catrina for not only giving Sadie the loving care she needs, but for personally raising a significant portion of the total medical costs by herself. Way to go Catrina! Annie’s Story

Annie was presented to her veterinarian with no movement in her hind legs. Myelogram evaluation revealed a very large extradural disk compression at T11-12 and T12-13 on her right side. She needed immediate back surgery including removing a massive amount of disk material. In addition, a fat graft needed to be placed in the surgical site before closure. The total cost of delicate procedure including boarding and pain medication was $2,200, so Gail contacted the Jake Brady Memorial Fund for financial assistance.

Outcome

Upon completion of surgical procedures, Annie was discharged the following day. By the end of the day, she had regained motor function and is progressing as planned! Annie’s procedure was completed at Veterinary Surgical Services in Tampa, Florida in December of 2007. The facility specializes in orthopedic, soft tissue, and neuro-surgery care. Her prognosis is excellent and rehabilitation will take up to 2 months. Congratulations to Gail as well for helping cover a portion of the cost toward Annie’s procedure and ensuring her road to a happy and healthy life.

Angel’s Story

Angel was diagnosed with PARVO, a deadly form of puppy flu. With her condition deteriorating rapidly, she needed immediate treatment including around the clock monitoring, intravenous fluids, and various medications to nurse her back to good health. Her new owner picked up Angel from a breeder, and it was unfortunately determined that the entire litter was infected with the deadly virus. The total cost of the care was $722, so Ginny contacted the Jake Brady Memorial Fund for financial assistance.

Outcome

After spending several days in the clinic, Angel is now PARVO free on here way to a long and healthy life with her new mother. Angel received her extensive care and treatment from West Park Animal Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio in December of 2007. In addition, the proper authorities were contacted to stop this breeder from further breeding of sick puppies, and were subsequently shut down! Congratulations to Ginny for taking action and helping make the world a safer place for others.

Charley’s Story

Charley was diagnosed with severe periodontal disease, including a tooth root abscess. Upon examination, it was determined that he undergo an extraction of the diseased tooth and a complete dental cleaning procedure. In addition, he was updated on vaccines and given heartworm medication. Pamela needed help to cover the $401 cost of the procedure so she contacted the Jake Brady Memorial Fund for assistance.

Outcome

Charley completed his oral procedure in November of 2007 and is doing just fine! The successful procedure was completed at West Park Animal Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, and he has been given a clean bill of health. Chance's Story
Chance, as he is now named, was a discarded stray and was hit by a car. He was found by a passing Good Samaritan and brought to West Park Animal Hospital. He was in pretty grim shape, including multiple deep lacerations and a multiple fracture of the left tibia. Upon examination, it was determined he undergo immediate Tibia/Plate Fixation surgery to repair the extensive damage. In addition, he needed intensive care treatment, fluids and medications to ensure his road to a safe and quick recovery. The total cost of all related procedures came to over $2,530, and the Jake Brady Memorial Fund offered to make a substantial donation to cover the cost of Chance’s rehabilitative care.

Outcome
Chance completed his surgery and boarding in October of 2007, and is now placed in a loving home with a dedicated family. The successful procedure was completed at West Park Animal Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, who specializes in trauma care and emergency treatment procedures. Chance now has a clean bill of health and is on his way to a long and healthy life with his new family. Some periodic check-ups and medications will be required to ensure his health. Cody developed and was diagnosed with bilateral diabetic cataracts, causing complete blindness in both eyes. He was in immediate need of specialized surgical procedures to restore his lost sight. Without the proper care, Cody would lead a life filled with darkness. Upon extensive examinations and testing, it was determined that Cody was a good candidate for the surgery, even with his existing diabetic condition. The total cost of all related testing and surgery was $4,290. Cody’s parents were in need of financial assistance to provide him the sight he so much deserves, so they turned to the Jake Brady Memorial Fund for assistance.

Cody completed his delicate surgery in July of 2007, has regained his sight, and has a fantastic outlook for the future! The specialized procedure was completed at Akron Eye Care for Animals in Akron, Ohio, one of the top rated facilities in the country. With improving sight each day, Cody can look forward to a bright and sunny future. Jude came to us with a chronic allergic condition of the skin, and needed immediate medication for treatment of the painful and irritable symptoms. Upon examination, it was determined that the condition could be regulated through a series of serum injections to relieve the ailment. Jude’s father, Steve, is on disability income, and needed funding to acquire the proper care for Jude. The total cost of the office visits and injections was $186, and he contacted the Jake Brady Memorial Fund for assistance.

Outcome
Jude completed his series of injections in June of 2007 and is now living clean and comfortable. The exam and procedures were completed at Wolf Creek Veterinary Clinic in Millersburg, Ohio, a facility which specializes in dermatology for animals. The specialists recommend that Jude also require some follow-up visits to monitor his condition, and to ensure his road to a healthy and healthy life.

Biscuit’s Story
Biscuit is a 2-year old Dalmatian rescued from hurricane Katrina, and was adopted in 2007 by her his mom Erin. He suffered a ruptured bladder in March of 2007 due to stones blocking his urethra, and the problem has been recurrent. Upon extensive examinations, it was recommended that Biscuit undergo surgery to repair the ruptured bladder and prevent recurrent obstruction. The total cost of procedures including testing, hospitalization and surgery was $2,654. Biscuit’s mom Erin, a recent college graduate searching for employment, was in dire need of financial assistance to provide him the life he deserves so she contacted the Jake Brady Memorial Fund for assistance.

Outcome
Biscuit completed his major surgery in June of 2007. The successful procedure was completed at Capital Veterinary Referral and Emergency Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, and Biscuit is doing fantastic! He is now on a healthy road to recovery with many years ahead of him. Congratulations to Erin for not only adopting Biscuit to give him a new chance at life, but for also acquiring additional finances on her own to help cover the cost of his care. Jewel came to us as an emergency situation suffering from a severe case of Pyometra, a toxic uterine infection which needed immediate attention. Upon testing procedures, it was determined that her uterus and ovaries be removed to correct the condition and prevent any future developments from occurring. She also needed extensive fluids and hospitalization to monitor her condition. Jewel’s mom needed assistance due to unemployment, and the Jake Brady Memorial Fund was there to offer immediate assistance.

Outcome
Jewel’s procedure was completed in April, 2007. The successful procedure was completed by Lakewood Animal Hospital in Lakewood, Ohio, and she is now happy and healthy again. She will need some short term monitoring to ensure her healthy recovery. A wonderful outcome for a wonderful friend!

George’s Story
George was presented on an emergency basis for the removal of a foreign body trapped in his intestine. Since his condition was declining rapidly, emergency surgery was recommended to remove the obstruction and bring him back to health. The total cost of the delicate surgical procedure including fluids, medications, and room and board was $822. Mollie is a young woman attending college and needed funding assistance to ensure George would continue to lead a long and healthy life, so she contacted the Jake Brady Memorial Fund for assistance.

Outcome
George’s procedure was completed in March, 2007. The successful care and procedure was provided by Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital in Akron, Ohio, and he is now his happy and mischievous self again! Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital is a terrific facility which also specializes in bird and exotic animal specialties. Since George is just over 2 years old, he is now able to live a long and healthy life for years to come. Let’s also give a hand to Mollie for covering a portion of George’s medical expenses. Tazrael’s Story
Tazrael was suffering from obstructed urinary outflow due to bladder stones, a typical life threatening ailment in male felines. Upon admitting him, it was recommended that a urinary catheter should be passed to relieve the obstruction and flush the bladder. In addition, a cat neuter was recommended to help mitigate any future problems. The total cost of the related procedures including medication and room and board was approximately $375. Will is a young man between jobs and needed funding assistance to help acquire the proper care for Tazrael, so his family contacted the Jake Brady Memorial Fund for assistance.

Outcome
Tazrael’s procedure was completed in February, 2007. The successful care and treatment was provided by Gateway Animal Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio, and he is now one happy and healthy cat! Being as young as he is, and since urinary tract and bladder problems are a prominent threat to feline health, he will undergo periodic treatments and a watchful eye going forward to ensure his health is the best it can be. In addition, let’s give a big Thank You to Will’s parents for helping out with a portion of Tazrael’s medical expenses!

Bubba’s Story
Bubba was suffering from a stomach and bowel condition, including vomiting up blood and traces of plastic in his stool. Radiographs showed bloated partial twist to stomach and thickened intestines. The recommendation was made to perform exploratory surgery to diagnose the exact cause of problem and determine the foreign body. The total cost of testing and care was $184, with the exploratory surgery including fluids and hospitalization at a cost of around $600. Dora is a young senior citizen on a budgeted income and in need of funding assistance to provide for Bubba’s care. She contacted the Jake Brady Memorial Fund for assistance.

Outcome
Bubba completed his testing and hospitalization in January, 2007. The comprehensive testing and care was provided by East Holmes Veterinary Clinic in Berlin, Ohio, and Bubba is now doing much better. Although the exploratory surgery has yet to be completed, the veterinarians at East Holmes feel Bubba’s condition is improving on a daily basis and his condition will be monitored going forward to ensure no further obstacles in his road to recovery. We will provide updates with any change in his condition.

Babee’s Story

The successful care and treatment was provided by Animal Clinic Northview in North Ridgeville, Ohio, and we are happy to report that Babee is now PARVO free! Periodic check ups will be required to ensure her continued health and happiness.

Mazi’s Story
Mazi was rescued from an abusive home, and suffered a transverse comminuted fracture of her proximal tibia, and needed emergency treatment to repair the damage. Upon consultation and x-rays, it was determined that Mazi be fitted with a Thomas Splint to ensure proper healing of the bone. The total cost of the procedure including testing and room and board for the day was $278. Mazi’s parents were in need of quick assistance, and the Jake Brady Memorial Fund was there to help.

Outcome
Mazi completed her emergency treatment in January, 2007. The successful procedure was completed at Lakewood Animal Hospital in Lakewood, Ohio, and Mazi is making terrific progress in her recovery. She will be back for a follow-up visit after 4 weeks for re-examination and to determine the actual removal time of the splint which is estimated at 6 weeks. We all wish Mazi and her family the best!

Cobb’s Story
Cobb came to us with an oral infection including an abscessed tooth which needed immediate removal, along with an abdominal mass which needed a biopsy to determine the outlook and any recommended treatment. The cost of treating the oral infection and removing the abscessed tooth, along with a complete CBC blood work-up and removal of the abdominal mass via elliptical incision was $768, and the Jake Brady Memorial Fund was there to offer our assistance.

Outcome
Cobb completed his oral surgery in January of 2007. The successful procedure was completed at Westlake Animal Hospital in Westlake, Ohio, and Cobb was given a clean bill of health and is doing great! In addition, the pathology on the abdominal mass removal revealed a completely removed stage 2 mass, with no signs of metastasizing further in his system. Cobb will undergo periodic tests and check ups to monitor this situation and make sure he remains happy and healthy.

Abby’s Story
Abby was hit by a car and suffered multiple injuries. Since her previous owners could not afford the emergency surgeries, they signed over ownership of Abby to GRIN, Golden Retrievers In Need rescue service who immediately took Abby to a local veterinarian facility for treatment. Upon examination, it was determined that Abby needed amputation of her two hind left toes, and a broken right hind leg requiring bone fusion and stabilization. She also had a severe laceration on her hind right leg requiring immediate treatment due to infection. The total cost of the various surgical procedures was approximately $2,317, and GRIN put an advertisement in local papers asking for donations to help Abby. Upon hearing of the tragic ordeal, the Jake Brady Memorial Fund agreed to help both Abby and the GRIN rescue service with funding assistance.

Outcome
Abby recently completed her surgical procedures and is getting better each day! The successful procedures were completed at West Park Animal Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. In addition, GRIN has found Abby a new home, and she was adopted by Sarah and Joe of Elyria. Abby is adjusting to walking on her hind leg with only two toes, and is putting more weight on her broken leg each day with a promising outlook for the future. With such a wonderful organization as GRIN, and two new loving parents, Abby is on her way to a long and happy life with her new family.

Buddy’s Story
Buddy was diagnosed with advanced periodontal disease, including gum disease and several infected teeth. Upon examination, it was determined that Buddy needed a complete dental cleaning and six tooth extractions to correct the existing and painful ailment. The total cost of the surgical procedure including testing, blood work, and follow-up medication was $479. Buddy’s proud mother is a single parent with two children and was in need of assistance to help Buddy, and the Jake Brady Memorial Fund was there to offer our services.

Outcome
Buddy completed his dental cleaning and oral surgery in October, 2006, and is now a happy boy! The successful procedure was completed at Lakewood Animal Hospital in Lakewood, Ohio, and Buddy is now doing fine. His oral condition is now completely healed, and Buddy is happy, eating regularly, and putting on weight. Buddy will continue follow-up appointments to make sure his blood levels are satisfactory and that there is no further sign of infection.

Trinity’s Story
Trinity, still just a puppy, was diagnosed with a urogenital developmental disorder called Ectopic Ureter. In this condition, the ureter is diverting the urinary bladder. It was recommended through her specialist that Trinity undergo a procedure that would reconnect the ureter to the urinary bladder to regain urinary continence. In addition, after performing an ultrasound of the abdomen, there was only one dilated kidney present which makes this a delicate procedure. The total cost of surgery, including an ovariohysterectomy to prevent any litters of puppies with similar genetic problems, was $3,077. Trinity's proud mother is a young woman in her twenties and in need of financial assistance to help Trinity.

Outcome
Trinity completed her delicate surgical procedure on June 16th, 2006, and is doing spectacular! The successful procedure was completed at Akron Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center in Akron, Ohio, and her ureter is now emptying into her urinary bladder as planned. Although she will need to have follow-up ultrasounds to monitor her kidney and make sure it is not dilating further, she couldn't be healthier and happier.

Let's hear it for Trinity's mom Stacy for making the decision to provide a long and healthy life to a special puppy. Tucker’s Story
Tucker was diagnosed with a genetic blindness defect. It was recommended through his eye specialist, that Tucker undergo Cataract surgery for both eyes, followed by Retinal Dysplasia surgery to provide Tucker with the sight he so much deserves. The total cost of the Cataract surgery alone was $1,610, while the Retinal Dysplasia surgery was $2,800. Tucker’s proud parents are senior citizens on a fixed income and were in need of assistance to help Tucker.

Outcome
Tucker recently completed his Cataract removal and Intraocular Lens Implantation on both eyes on May 30th, 2006, as well as his Retinal Dysplasia surgery in mid-June, 2006, and is doing just fine! The successful procedure was completed at Animal Eye Care in Carey, North Carolina, and his sight is improving better than expected each day. We will keep you updated on his progress going forward.

Congratulations to Tucker’s mom Susan as well. Loving her pet as much as she does, Susan took the initiative to raise funds on her own behalf to help cover the cost of Tucker’s surgical procedures! Way to go Susan!

Sadly, not every family the Jake Brady Memorial Fund has offered funding support to have come away with the happiest of endings. Mufasa
Mufasa was a Great Dane who was rescued and loved a lifetime by his adopted mother Rosemary. Affectionately called “Moofy”, he spent his days lounging and playing in a loving home with a loving mother. When Rosemary first saw this wonderful dog at a rescue shelter, she immediately brought him home to give him the love and care he so deserved.

Mufasa was suffering from several severe conditions causing him to lose a lot of weight and loss of appetite. Many tests were done to determine the exact cause of his illness, but based on the severity and advanced conditions, Rosemary could not have her child suffer any more. Mufasa passed away on July 12, 2009.

He will live forever with Rosemary in spirit, and always be thankful for the life and love they shared together. God Bless You, Mufasa and Rosemary!

Sundance was a Labrador Retriever who enjoyed life to the fullest. He liked to spend his days with his parents traveling, hiking, swimming, playing and relaxing around the house. His parents described him as a kind spirited friend, and a ray of sunshine in a sometimes bleak world. He lived with them since he was only seven weeks old, and the relationship soon developed into a bond that would never be broken. He also loved children and for this reason forever remained a puppy at heart and mind.

Early in 2006, Sundance was diagnosed with progressive renal failure. At such an early age, this was hardly fair to a fine companion. In order to determine the cause, status, and outlook of his progressive illness, an ultrasound guided biopsy, extensive blood testing, and fluid therapy were recommended to correctly evaluate his condition and determine what steps could be taken going forward. George and Kimmy were in need of assistance and the Jake Brady Memorial Fund was there to offer our services.

Unfortunately, upon completion of Sundance's procedures, it was determined that his illness was far too advanced and could not be corrected. However, they could now find comfort knowing that they did everything possible without giving up any last hope. Loving Sundance as much as they did, and thinking only of his best interest, they decided it was not fair for him to suffer any longer. Sundance passed away in May 2006.

Even though his life here has passed too soon, he will live with his family forever in spirit. God Bless You Sundance.

Socks
Socks was a Labrador Retriever mix who lived a lifetime of companionship through such an early age. At just eight weeks, Socks was adopted by Nicole and Jared from the Lorain County APL, and brought back to a wonderful and loving family with four young children. "Sockie Bear," as he was affectionately called, loved to play catch in the yard, go for rides in the car, and would make his way from bed to bed throughout the night, taking turns sleeping with each of his family members...head on pillow of course. He was especially fond of each child, and now reserves a special place in each of their hearts.

In May 2006, Socks developed an abnormal large growth on his hind left leg. Shortly after a biopsy was done, in order to diagnose the nature of the growth, and it was determined the growth be removed as soon as possible. The family then contacted the Jake Brady Memorial Fund for assistance.

Unfortunately, upon completion of the surgical procedure to remove the growth, it was discovered that the cells extended far below the growth and into the bone. For any companion animal, especially one not even three years old, this is devastating news. Nicole and Jared were told that Socks would at least have to deal with extensive and ongoing chemotherapy, or lose his left hind leg completely. Even then, there was no guarantee that things would turn out okay. Loving Socks as much as they did, and thinking only of his best interest, they decided it was not fair for him to undergo such traumatic and draining therapy or even lose his leg. Socks passed away on June 22, 2006.

Even though his life here has passed too soon, he will live with his family forever in spirit. God Bless You Socks.

Name:  Buddy Breed:  Dalmatian Age:  12 years, 2 months Lived:  Jupiter, FL Parents:  David

Buddy
Buddy was a Dalmatian who received and gave a lifetime of love with his father, David. He loved to go for long rides up the coast in the car, play with countless toys, and go for runs in the woods while searching for armadillos, even bringing them back to David. Hiding his raw hides in his niece and nephew’s school bags was also a favorite past time which brought years of countless memories.

In his latest year, Buddy developed a severe degenerative neurological disease including generalized muscle atrophy, which prohibited him from walking on his hind legs. He also was developing kidney disease in his old age. Wanting to do all he could for Buddy, David needed advice and assistance in the direction of Buddy’s care and contacted the Jake Brady Memorial Fund for assistance. He then took Buddy to the Okeechobee Veterinary Hospital to schedule extensive testing and determine the cause and treatment of Buddy’s ailments.

Sadly, upon radiographs of spine and pelvis, along with blood work and a physical exam, it was determined that Buddy’s condition was too advanced and could not be reversed. David was faced with the one decision that no one wants to bear, but thought only of Buddy’s best interest. Loving Buddy as much as he does, and with the recommendation of his veterinarian, he decided that it was not fair for him go on without mobility and comfort in his life. Buddy passed away on January 11, 2008.

He will live forever with David in spirit, and always be thankful for the life and love they shared. God Bless You Buddy.
